  • Mary G. Porter Traditional Ranks No. 3 in Virginia on 2025 Middle School List

    Mary G. Porter Traditional in Woodbridge ranked third in Virginia on U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 middle school list, the highest finish among Northern Virginia schools. The rankings—based on test results and high school readiness—covered 1,044 Virginia schools and are not issued nationally. Other high NoVA placements include Williamsburg Middle (4), Rocky Run (5), Pennington Traditional (6), Lake Braddock Secondary (7), Carson Middle (12), and Longfellow Middle (13). In the companion elementary list, Sangster (Springfield) ranked 2, Arlington Traditional 4, Haycock (Falls Church) 5, and Mary G. Porter Traditional 21. (NoVa Mag)

  • PWC Marks America Recycles Day with Library Events, Pledge, and Prizes

    Prince William County is celebrating America Recycles Day with recycling Q&As and activities at Central Library (Nov. 10) and Chinn Park Regional Library (Nov. 12), 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Residents can take MWCOG’s 2025 I Recycle pledge at mwcog.org/recyclesday through Nov. 21 for a chance to win a $300 gift card; a student winner also earns a $500 school grant. The effort promotes both recycling and buying recycled products, and county entrants have frequently won regional prizes. (PWC)

  • Makerspace, Study Rooms, and Small Business Center Coming to Chinn Park Library

    Chinn Park Library will close on November 26, 2025, for renovations that will add a small business resource center, a makerspace, new study rooms, and an enhanced MAGIC research area, with reopening slated for summer 2026. A temporary weekday library will operate on-site starting January 20, 2026, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Holds shift to Lake Ridge Library from November 24 to January 18, then to the Chinn Park ASC Library beginning January 20. The book drop closes November 26; returns are accepted at other branches and off-site drops. (PWC)
