22 Names, 25 Years Later
Twenty-five years on, the county will read the names of the 22 Prince William residents killed on September 11, 2001. The ceremony is tomorrow evening β Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Sean T. Connaughton Plaza, 1 County Complex Court β and includes personal reflections from people the attacks touched directly, remarks from the Board of County Supervisors, and a performance by the Osbourn Park High School Madrigal Choir. No registration and no ticket; all are welcome. (Prince William Living)
Most Left Turns Close at Parkway and Minnieville on Sept. 22
Starting Sept. 22, most left-turn movements at Prince William Parkway and Minnieville Road are temporarily restricted while crews build the new interchange. Through traffic and all right turns stay open in every direction, and one left survives β northbound Parkway onto westbound Minnieville toward Dale Blvd. Everyone else gets a detour: eastbound Minnieville goes via Amethyst and Quartz Avenues; westbound Minnieville via Elm Farm Road and the temporary detour road; southbound Parkway via the detour road and Elm Farm. The end state is a Single Point Urban Interchange with the Parkway running underneath Minnieville, built for today's turning volume and for the Quartz District still to come. Allow extra time and follow the signs. (PWC)
$48,000 Going to the County's Community Cats
On direction from the Board of County Supervisors, Animal Services is putting $48,000 into expanding the county's Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate and Release program β the approach that stabilizes free-roaming cat colonies by sterilizing them rather than removing them. The money goes to one or more established local nonprofits to do the trapping and the surgeries, and every cat funded through it gets the full treatment: sterilization with pain relief, a microchip, a rabies vaccination, and an ear tip so it is recognizable as already done. Groups taking the funding have to report back on how many cats were sterilized, which zip codes they came from, and where the money went. The work runs October through June, and applications close at noon Thursday. (PWC)
