    Prince William County has completed its broadband expansion project five months ahead of schedule and under budget, extending high-speed fiber-optic internet to 474 previously underserved areas. With funding support from $1.35 million in ARPA funds and work by Verizon, less than 1.5% of residents now lack access. This achievement is part of the county’s broader “Digital Prince William” initiative, which also includes over 500 free digital literacy classes and the distribution of 11,000 broadband hotspots. The initiative aims to close digital equity gaps in infrastructure, affordability, and education. (PWC)

  • PowerEngage Rolls Out to Improve 911 Call Experience in Prince William County

    Prince William County is launching a new feedback system called PowerEngage, allowing residents to complete text-based surveys after calling 911 or the county’s non-emergency line. Beginning in July 2025, select callers will receive optional surveys to rate and comment on their interaction with 911 call takers. Feedback will help the Department of Public Safety Communications improve training and service quality. The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen transparency and modernize resident services. (PWC)

  • Virginia’s Cat Laws Vary by County—Here’s Where Prince William Stands

    In Virginia, cat ownership laws are primarily governed at the local level, resulting in varied regulations throughout the state. Prince William County stands out as one of Virginia’s largest jurisdictions that does not limit the number of cats residents can own. While Fairfax County shares the same approach, places like Chesterfield and Henrico counties enforce limits aimed at curbing animal hoarding. Although animal hoarding is penalized as animal cruelty under Virginia’s “Tommie’s Law,” many cases result in minimal legal repercussions. Prince William County remains pet-friendly in its policies, but residents are encouraged to practice responsible pet ownership and check local ordinances before expanding their furry households.
