In this Go Prince William County, Va Issue…

Only the heat slows down here in the fall. The calendar is absolutely packed, whether you are looking with or without libations. Occoquan made it through last weekend dodging the raindrops. This weekend is looking much more promising all around though!

Quick Bites

  • Turn Fall Leaves into Soil Gold in Prince William County

Prince William County is encouraging residents to turn fall leaves and yard debris into compost, a low-cost way to enrich soil while keeping organic material out of the landfill. Home composting transforms leaves, grass clippings, small branches, and food scraps into a free, high‑quality soil amendment that can improve plant health, reduce water and pesticide use, and lower gardening costs; statewide and national resources from Virginia Cooperative Extension and the Compost Foundation offer easy how‑tos. For those who prefer service over DIY, yard waste can be set out in paper bags or a container labeled “Yard Waste” for curbside pickup, which is mandatory from March through December in the county. Collected material is processed at the county’s compost facility, and finished compost is available for purchase at the Prince William County Landfill and Compost Facility. (PWC)

  • Police Academy 61st Session Graduates in Bristow and Heads to Patrol

Prince William County’s Criminal Justice Academy marked the graduation of its 61st Basic Law Enforcement Session, commissioning 14 new police officers and one sheriff’s deputy after a 24‑week program in firearms, use‑of‑force decision making, driving, legal studies, patrol, and investigative skills. The ceremony took place in Bristow, and graduates have been assigned to patrol across the county or to the Sheriff’s Office, with several holding class leadership roles and bringing prior service or cadet experience. The Police Department is actively recruiting and directs interested applicants to 703-792-7924 and www.joinpwcpd.org. (PWC)

  • Prince William County Wins National Honor for Demographics Hub

Prince William County won a 2025 Government Experience Project Award from the Center for Digital Government for its Demographics Hub, a 2024-launched platform that provides real-time population, housing, and economic data through interactive dashboards. Built by the county’s Geospatial Technology Services team on Esri’s ArcGIS, the hub helps users analyze neighborhood trends, understand growth impacts on services and infrastructure, and review data that guides future facility locations. Automated updates improve accuracy and reduce manual workload, advancing the county’s goals for transparency, accessibility, and data-driven decision-making. The hub previously earned a Virginia Commonwealth Technology Award and is available at pwcva.gov/demographics. (PWC)
