Quick Bites

  • FAA Clears Manassas Airport for Commercial Flights

The biggest regulatory barrier between Washington Manassas Airport and scheduled passenger service just came down. The FAA issued a Finding of No Significant Impact and Record of Decision on the airport's environmental assessment, clearing the way for commercial airlines to serve HEF. Officials are targeting spring 2027 for the first flights, slipped from an original 2025 goal. It would make Manassas the county's first commercial airport. (Potomac Local)

  • And the Rescue Station It Requires Is Already Built

The physical half of that same story went up this month: a two-story, 4,596-square-foot aircraft rescue and firefighting facility with three apparatus bays, staffed 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It isn't a nice-to-have β€” the FAA requires one of any airport offering commercial service, so the building and the clearance are two halves of the same runway to 2027. Airport operator Avports covered $600,000 of the $1.15 million cost. (Prince William Times)

  • Data Centers Could Land Next to Prince William Forest Park

Elsewhere on the development front, federal officials are weighing a swap of 36 acres of parkland for 73 acres of developer-owned wetlands β€” a trade that would let Highland Digital build at least four 100-foot data centers near Quantico Creek. Highland withdrew its rezoning applications in June, but its comprehensive plan amendment is still pending. Board Chair Deshundra Jefferson said the prospect "gives me heartburn," and Rep. Eugene Vindman has come out against it. (Prince William Times)
