Nationwide, raising a child costs six times more than owning a dog. Child care is the biggest expense for families, while pet-related costs are far lower. The study also highlights Massachusetts as the most expensive state for raising a child and Alaska as the priciest for dog ownership. For every dollar spent on a dog, families typically spend $6.32 on raising a child. (Patch)
