Prince William County Senior Earns $27K for Groundbreaking Sleep and Screen Time Research
Prince William County high school senior Rania Lateef has been named a top 40 finalist in the 2025 Regeneron Science Talent Search, earning $27,000 in scholarships. Her research on the effects of disrupted sleep and blue light exposure on mental and physical health was conducted using fruit flies. She found that sleep disruptions can shorten lifespans and that prolonged blue light exposure impairs memory and accelerates aging. Lateef will compete in Washington, D.C., for a chance to win the $250,000 grand prize. (WTOP)
