  • Nearly 4,000 Homes Eyed for Rural Gainesville

    Growth is back on the agenda in western Prince William: on July 21, supervisors voted 5-3 to begin studying two large residential proposals in rural Gainesville near Manassas National Battlefield Park. Together, Catharpin Valley Estates and Manassas Preserve could add up to 3,929 homes across roughly 550 acres. Supporters point to a real need for entry-level housing, while opponents raised traffic and environmental concerns. Officials stress this is only a study step, not an approval — zoning votes are still to come, so there's plenty of time for residents to weigh in. (Prince William Times)

  • 80 New Jobs Headed to Innovation Park

    Big news for the local economy: engineering and consulting firm Hepburn and Sons is planting its new headquarters and innovation hub in Prince William County's Innovation Park. The company is investing $18.1 million in a roughly 27,000-square-foot building and plans to create 80 new jobs. The specialized defense, maritime, and national-security firm was recruited with help from the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, plus a $400,000 state grant and workforce-training support. Operations are slated to be up and running by summer 2028. (Area Development)

Highlights include Water Safety Day with Stewie the Duck (Aug 4), a 21+ Revolutionary War Memorial Dedication & Tavern Night in Dumfries (Aug 8), free Fridays at 5 concerts and movies in the park in Woodbridge (Aug 14 & 21), and Miracle League Baseball for players of all abilities (Aug 15). A few — like Rippon Lodge's Bug & Bird Day — carry a small fee, so check before you go. (Prince William County)
