๐ŸŽ‚ Todayโ€™s edition marks one year of publishing GoPWCVA. Sadly today will also be the last issue. It has been a joy to put this publication together over the last year; to learn and share about so many things that go on in the county all of the time. While this is goodbye for now, one never knows what the road will bring.

Quick Bites

  • Donations dip puts pressure on Prince William holiday gift drive for kids and seniors

Volunteer Prince William reports a dip in holiday donations and sign-ups and is seeking help on GivingTuesday to meet goals for its Untrim-A-Tree and Senior Basket programs. The nonprofit plans gifts for 4,000 children and support for 800 homebound seniors, encourages partial or wish-list donations to ease costs, and is appealing to local businesses. The donor-funded effort relies on school social workers to identify families, and former recipients often return as sponsors. (WTOP)

Prince William County celebrated new graduates of the Greater Prince William Veterans Treatment Docket, a year-plus program that combines treatment, supervision, and accountability to help justice-involved veterans avoid jail and stabilize their lives. Officials report no recidivism among graduates since the docket began in 2019. The program is run by county justice and community services with partners including the VA and state veterans services. Veterans can volunteer for the docket, seek entry via the coordinator at 571-383-1209 or a referral form, and community members can apply to serve as veteran mentors. (PWC)
