In this Go Prince William County, Va Issue…

Well — we enter the sauna with a Wednesday–Thursday stretch that’s going to flirt with 101° and heat-index readings north of 105°, the weekend finally cracks the heat, trading it for afternoon thunderstorms and a merciful slide back into the low 90s. Grab the umbrella, not just the sunscreen. Inside: the Board of Supervisors’ unanimous rejection of a nearly 2,000-acre data center out toward the Loudoun line, a heartfelt goodbye from a Montclair institution, grill-safety season, your weekend live-music guide (a full one), and everything happening around the county Friday through Sunday. Until next week’s issue…6AM Wednesday mornings.

Quick Bites

  • No Deal: Gainesville Data Center Voted Down

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors voted unanimously, 8–0 on July 7, to reject the comprehensive-plan amendment behind the roughly 1,940-acre Dulles South Innovation Center — a data-center campus proposed near the Loudoun County line in the Gainesville District that could have brought up to 43 million square feet of facilities. Supervisors cited environmental impact, emissions from backup diesel generators, and a preference for following the county’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan over “piecemeal development.” For residents, the vote keeps a major industrial footprint — and its traffic, water, and air-quality questions — off the table for now. • Montclair Family Restaurant Loses a Legend

Montclair Family Restaurant is mourning Peggy Curry, its 70-year-old front-of-house manager, who collapsed and died while working this past Saturday. A seven-time “Best Waitress” winner, Curry spent decades making regulars feel like family; owner Francesco Leone called her “like a mother” and the soul of the place. The restaurant closed temporarily to grieve as customers and staff shared an outpouring of memories. (InsideNoVa)

  • Keep the Cookout Off the Fire Blotter

With July marking National Grilling Month, Prince William County Fire & Rescue is reminding everyone that a great cookout starts with a safe one. The four biggest causes of grill fires, they say, are placing items too close to the grill, walking away from it, leaking or damaged equipment, and grease buildup — so keep a three-foot zone clear, use long-handled tools, clean off the grease, and never leave a hot grill unattended. Apartment and townhome residents, note: county fire code keeps grills off balconies and at least 15 feet from the building. (PWC Fire & Rescue)
