  • On Outreach and On Alert: County Team Revives Woman, Connects Her to Recovery Help

Two Prince William County Department of Community Services peer support specialists helped save a woman from an opioid overdose during an outreach event by supplying and guiding the use of naloxone while EMS was en route. The woman regained consciousness within minutes, and the specialists remained to provide recovery resources and peer support. The county’s REVIVE! training prepared them for the response and is available to the public. Residents can register for sessions at pwcva.gov/events or by calling 703-792-7800; naloxone information is at pwcva.gov/department/community-services/naloxone-education. (PWC)

  • Community Turns Out as County Showcases Round-the-Clock Mental Health Crisis Facility

Prince William County celebrated the completion of its Crisis Receiving Center Complex with a ribbon-cutting attended by about 230 people, highlighting a county- and state-backed effort to expand 24/7 behavioral health crisis care. The facility, which includes 64 chairs and beds for adults and youth and will be operated by Connections Health Solutions, is expected to open after final licensing approvals, with the adult unit anticipated by month’s end and the youth unit to follow. Leaders described the center as a regional milestone designed to deliver timely, evidence-based support in the least restrictive setting, with capacity to serve an estimated 15,000 to 18,000 people annually. A subsequent Community Day drew nearly 500 residents for tours and information, and details on services are available at pwcva.gov/cs. (PWC)

  • ‘Citizen Hero’s Award’ Presented to Trio Who Helped Revive Golfer at Regency Country Club

A golf tournament at Dominion Valley became a lifesaving effort when three friends performed bystander CPR on Rick Stockwell after he suffered a heart attack, while another called 911 and guided crews to the scene. EMS continued resuscitation, used a defibrillator to restore a pulse, and transported him to the hospital, where he arrived alert. Fire and Rescue officials credited early bystander CPR and quick 911 activation as decisive and urged residents to pursue CPR training. The department honored the three golfers with the Citizen Hero’s Award, and Stockwell is now recovering at home. (PWC)
