    The Va. 28 bypass project was canceled due to cost concerns and a deadlock with Fairfax County, prompting officials to explore alternative solutions for reducing congestion in Manassas. Options include widening Centreville Road and redesigning key intersections, with construction set to begin in 2027. While city officials believe the bypass was the best long-term solution, county leaders argue that widening the road may be a faster alternative. A public hearing is scheduled for February 26 to discuss the next steps. (PW Times)

  • Officials Urge Fireplace Inspections After Lake Ridge Fire Displaces Five

    A Lake Ridge townhouse fire on Saturday was caused by a faulty fireplace flue, displacing five residents. Firefighters arrived around 3:45 p.m. to find smoke and flames spreading into the attic. The fire was quickly contained, and no injuries were reported, but the home was deemed unsafe. The Red Cross is assisting the two adults and three children affected. Fire officials urge residents to have fireplaces and chimneys inspected annually to prevent similar incidents. (Patch)
