Rabies Confirmed in a Gainesville Cat | 257 Townhomes Advance Outside Haymarket | Roem Backs a Data Center Moratorium

Issue #26-294

In this Go Prince William County, Va Issue…

Three sunny days in the sixties, no rain, barely any wind. Spend them outside. πŸ‚

In this Go Prince William County, Va Issue… county police have confirmed rabies in a Gainesville cat and are monitoring four more, the Planning Commission cleared 257 townhomes on U.S. 15 outside Haymarket, and Prince William's own state senator is backing a three-year pause on data center construction. Downstairs: the NVA Thai Street Food & Culture Festival takes the Manassas Museum lawn all day Sunday, Leesylvania throws its Fall Festival with hayrides and a trunk-or-treat, Manassas Ballet Theatre opens its season at the Hylton three nights running, Haunted Happenings fills Center Street on Saturday morning, and Occoquan shows Coco in River Mill Park after dark. Bring a jacket once the sun goes down β€” Saturday morning starts in the mid-thirties.

  • Rabies Confirmed in a Gainesville Cat

A cat that lived in the 15500 block of Thoroughfare Road in Gainesville has tested positive for rabies, and four more cats seized from the same area are being contained and monitored, Prince William County police said. The cat was known to "socialize with other cats, pets and people," which is what makes this worth passing along rather than filing. Police are asking anyone who thinks they or their pets had contact with the confirmed rabid cat to seek medical attention immediately and to report it to Prince William County Animal Services at 703-792-6465. • 257 Townhomes Advance Outside Haymarket

The county Planning Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to recommend rezoning about 35 acres along U.S. 15, just north of Haymarket Elementary, for a townhome community called Lumina β€” 153 townhomes plus 94 stacked townhomes up to 45 feet tall, with a small park, a clubhouse and a trail. No residents spoke at the public hearing. The schools are the sharp end of it: the development is expected to add roughly 99 students to Haymarket Elementary, Ronald Reagan Middle and Gainesville High, all three of which the school division already lists as over capacity. The applicant has offered turn lanes on U.S. 15, at least 25 homes priced for households earning 80–120% of area median income, and $5,000 per market-rate home to the school division. • Roem Backs a Three-Year Data Center Moratorium

State lawmakers have filed a slate of bills that would pause data center development across Virginia when the General Assembly convenes in January. Senate Bill 843, filed by Sen. Russett Perry of Loudoun alongside Sen. Danica Roem of Prince William, would bar localities, the Department of Environmental Quality and the State Corporation Commission from approving any data center building permit statewide from July 2027 to July 2030 β€” and would also block distribution lines and on-site power built solely to serve data centers in that window. Roem is filing a second, narrower moratorium bill tied to Dominion's interconnection queue, where about 25,000 megawatts are assigned to projects with an energized date and another 75,000 megawatts to projects without one. Virginia has nearly 400 data centers running and more than 280 planned. (Virginia Mercury via Prince William Times)

Sunny all three days, no rain in the forecast at all, and almost no wind β€” Saturday and Sunday are close to dead calm. Highs sit in the low sixties, which is about as good as a late-October weekend gets here. The catch is the overnights: it bottoms out at 36 before dawn Saturday, so anything that runs past sundown wants a jacket.
