In this Go Prince William County, Va Issue…

The fall slow-down seems upon us pretty quickly as we exit Labor Day and the extreme heat seems to be behind us. That doesn’t mean the calendars are empty though, so check out what’s good below!

Quick Bites

  • Rangers’ Tips for Fall Wildlife Watching Across Prince William County

Prince William County parks offer rich fall wildlife watching, from raptors and herons at Neabsco to foxes and swallows at Lake Ridge, and larger mammals like black bears and white-tailed deer at Silver Lake. Park rangers urge responsible viewing: don’t feed or disturb animals, keep a safe distance, leash dogs, stay on established trails, and practice Leave No Trace. If you encounter an injured animal, notify a ranger; young animals that appear abandoned are often being monitored by a parent, so avoid intervening and alert staff instead. Rangers are on hand to answer questions and help keep parks clean, safe, and welcoming for both people and wildlife. (PWC)

  • From Story Time to Startups: Why a PWPL Library Card Belongs in Your Wallet

Prince William Public Libraries is celebrating Library Card Sign-up Month by showcasing the many benefits of a free PWPL card, including makerspaces, business and genealogy resources (MAGIC and RELIC), and programs for all ages. Cards can be obtained in person or online, and the PWPL app offers convenient access. The initiative emphasizes that a single library card supports students, lifelong learners, and community connections across the county. (PWC)

  • Team Up for a Tidy Neighborhood: Dumpster Days Offer Free Disposal, Shredding, Reuse

Prince William County’s Solid Waste Division is rolling out free Dumpster Day events this fall to support community cleanups, with locations countywide and optional services such as paper shredding and reuse collection at select sites. All residents may participate, and organizers are encouraged to coordinate litter pickups with Keep Prince William Beautiful. Prohibited items—such as electronics and household hazardous waste—are not accepted at the dumpsters but can be taken to the county landfill; see pwcva.gov/disposalguide. Appliance drop-offs require preparation, including emptying and taping refrigerator doors and removing microwave glass trays. Dates and locations are listed at pwcva.gov/dumpster-days. (PWC)
