Issue #25-240

In this Go Prince William County, Va Issue…

Summer is officially winding down; even feels like fall at times. Super strange for August!

That’s ok, our fall events around here are pretty fun and I won’t mind seeing the heat die down a bit.

The Local Events are fewer this week since most are connected with the county or towns who are off for the holiday. However, “Nightlife and Libations” is extended in this issue to include Monday. Weather too!

Quick Bites

  • VDOT lifts most lane closures for Labor Day weekend across Virginia

VDOT will lift most lane closures statewide from noon Fri., Aug. 29 to noon Tue., Sept. 2 to ease Labor Day travel, though some long-term work zones remain. Plan ahead with 511 (app, website, or dialing 511) for real-time traffic and trends; in NoVA check Express Lanes schedules, and in Hampton Roads consider I-664/MMMBT instead of HRBT (I-264 to Virginia Beach; Route 168 to the Outer Banks). VDOT urges seat belts, distraction-free and sober driving, rest breaks, slowing in work zones, obeying the Move Over law, and reporting hazards at my.vdot.virginia.gov or 800-FOR-ROAD. (PW Living)

  • Adopt a Park and help keep Prince William County’s trails and open spaces beautiful

Prince William County’s Adopt‑a‑Park program enlists residents, families, groups, and businesses to help maintain parks and trails through monthly cleanups and beautification. Volunteers tackle litter removal, weeding, planting, mulching, and hazard reporting, with supplies provided. Students can earn service hours and participating businesses are recognized. Sign‑ups are available through the county’s Parks and Recreation website. (PWC)

  • Recognition highlights Prince William County’s commitment to safe development

Prince William County’s Building Development Division earned BCEGS scores of 89.47 (commercial) and 84.81 (residential), surpassing last year and exceeding Virginia’s averages. The ISO-administered assessment reviews training, inspections, and plan review to gauge enforcement effectiveness. The results highlight the county’s ongoing investment in building safety and reinforce confidence in local construction standards. (PWC)
