  • Prince William County Teacher Charged with Assaulting 6-Year-Old in Classroom

    A substitute teacher at Covington-Harper Elementary School in Prince William County was arrested after allegedly slapping a 6-year-old student in the classroom. Police responded to the school on February 3 to investigate the incident and determined that 59-year-old Amita Kumar had struck the child, causing minor injuries. Kumar was arrested on February 5, charged with assault and battery, and later released on a court summons. The school's principal notified families about the incident, emphasizing that student safety remains a top priority and confirming that Kumar is no longer employed with the school district. Authorities continue to investigate the case, and Kumar is expected to appear in court at a later date. (DC News Now)
