Quick Bites

  • Virginia's Styrofoam Ban Takes Full Effect July 1

Starting July 1, 2026, all Virginia food vendors must stop using expanded polystyrene (EPS) “Styrofoam” food containers — plates, cups, bowls, trays, and hinged boxes — completing a phase-in that hit large chains a year ago. The Virginia DEQ notes less than 1% of EPS is recycled, it takes 500+ years to break down, and its main ingredient, styrene, is a possible carcinogen. Vendors facing “undue economic hardship” can apply to their locality for a one-year exemption, and the Foam Free Virginia initiative offers switch-over resources. (PWC)

  • PWC Parks & Rec Sweeps 11 “Best of Prince William” Awards

Prince William County Parks & Recreation was voted “Best Of” in 11 categories in InsideNoVa's 2026 Best of Prince William contest, decided by nearly 19,000 readers casting more than 134,000 votes. Winners included the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk (Best Tourist Attraction), SplashDown Waterpark (Best Place for Family Fun), Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center (Best Swimming Pool), and the Dale City Farmers Market (Best Farmers Market). • County Small Business Program Hits 3,000 Entrepreneurs Served

The County's Department of Development Services celebrated a milestone: 3,000 small business owners served by its Small Business Project Management (SBPM) Program, which helps startups and businesses with 35 or fewer employees navigate commercial real estate and the building-permit process. Launched in 2018, the free program pairs owners with dedicated project managers, maps out permitting timelines, and makes community and business connections. (PWC)
