In this Go Prince William County, Va Issue…

The fireworks are behind us and summer has fully settled in β€” heat, humidity, and the afternoon storms that come with it. Good news: the county just opened a brand-new (and free!) sprayground out in the west end to help everyone cool off. This week we've got fresh farmers markets, a downtown First Friday, and a look at what the county is doing on conservation and infrastructure. Keep an eye on the storm chances if you're heading out β€” but we won't judge a rain check. Until next week's issue…6AM Wednesday mornings.

Quick Bites

  • A New β€” and Free β€” Sprayground Opens in the West End

Prince William County Parks & Rec cut the ribbon Monday on a brand-new sprayground at Catharpin Recreational Park, giving the west end its own spot to cool off. It's sports-themed with plenty of sprayers, fenced in next to the playground, and runs daily 10 a.m.–6 p.m. through Labor Day (weather permitting). Best part, per Parks Director Seth Hendler-Voss: "the best part about it β€” it's free!" (PWC)

  • County Opens Applications to Preserve Farmland & Open Space

The county's new Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) Program is taking applications July 1–Aug. 31. The voluntary program pays eligible landowners for the development rights on their property β€” placing a permanent open-space easement while owners keep the land for farming, forestry, gardening, or beekeeping. Properties generally need at least 20 acres; details at pwcva.gov/pdr-program. (PWC)

  • New County Department Takes On Roads & Big Projects

Prince William has rolled its transportation and capital-project work into a single new agency β€” the Department of Transportation and Capital Construction (DTCC). It brings roads, facilities, parks, and public infrastructure under one roof, aimed at faster, more coordinated, more accountable project delivery as the county grows. More at pwcva.gov/transportation. (PWC)
